The Czech Republic’s population is 10.5 million, and the country is largely surrounded by mountains.

The land was known as Bohemia and Moravia for many centuries, before becoming Czechoslovakia in 1918. The country divided peacefully into two separate states, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, in 1993.

The capital, Prague, is 5th most visited city in Europe. The Charles University in Prague was founded in 1348, the oldest in Eastern Europe.
